The UK government remains fully committed to implementing the Windsor Framework, ensuring the protection of the UK’s internal market. While significant progress has been made towards preparing for the framework, recent events have impacted readiness across the border industry and for traders.
Due to several factors, including the General Election and the busy Christmas season, it has become clear that more time is needed to fully prepare for the upcoming changes. The government recognises the challenges of introducing new systems during this peak period and the need for businesses to have adequate time to adjust.
What’s Changing?
The new arrangements under the Windsor Framework, originally set to take effect on 30th September 2024, will now be delayed. Businesses should now prepare for the framework to come into force on 31st March 2025.
How to Prepare for March 2025
Over the coming months, the government will intensify efforts to ensure businesses are fully prepared for the framework’s new arrangements with continued support through the Trader Support Service (TSS), which will assist businesses with freight movements and help them transition to the new regulations along with updated guidance online, which will reflect the latest timeline and provide key information for traders.
Ongoing Support
The TSS will remain available throughout 2025, ensuring businesses receive the help they need to navigate the new processes under the Windsor Framework. Businesses are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to make the transition as seamless as possible.
