Questions & Answers

I have seen Cargill have added sails to some of their ships, saving 30% of emissions. Is this something you are seeing more widely?

There is a good deal of activity in regards to reducing carbon across the maritime sector from battery use on short hauls to wind assistance. At this moment in time, there is nothing at a commercial scale but lots of R&D and test re commercialisation. It’s a long way from being common practice with use of alternative fuels, like LNG, LPG, biofuels, hydrogen and methanol the technologies being more widely adopted and explored.

You said you can report CO2 on FCL - can you also report on LTL - and how can we see these reports.

We can calculate CO2 emissions across all modes and size of shipment,  we set up bespoke reports depending on your business requirements, these are issued to customers via their account managers.

Should we be collating information from our suppliers for the co2 emissions they incur?

This depends upon the size of the organisation and what they need to report on. What their stakeholders and customers are asking them, but in essence many organisations are collating upstream scope 3 emission data, often initially using spend data but then replacing this with better data from suppliers where is available.
