After identifying a need for clients to be able to access information relating to their shipments at any time, we began to look for software packages that could present tracking data in real time by linking to the main operational system being used within the business.
Sales Executive and Far East Trade Manager Paul Ferguson explains: “At the end of 2009 we began looking for a replacement system for our old legacy Freight Forwarding software that had been developed in house and had been in use for a number of years.
“After a great deal of research, the decision was made to take on an ‘off-the-shelf’ solution – Cargowise ediEnterprise. The Track & Trace functionality was already present within Cargowise ediEnterprise as the ediWebtracker module and perfectly matched the requirements that had been highlighted through consultation with key business partners.”
The system runs from an externally hosted Windows server which is managed on our behalf by Arizona-based Tran-Soft, so our internal I.T. staff can concentrate purely on the requirements of operational staff and customers who use the system each day.
Users network with the server via a remote desktop connection, which also allows access to the operating system from anywhere in the world at any time of the day, enabling us to deliver the highest level of service to our clients, seven days a week.
The Track & Trace system is accessed using web client software such as Google or Internet Explorer and users simply log in using an email address along with a customer ID and password issued by us.
Once logged into the system, clients can access shipment and accounts information using a variety of search facilities and drop down menus, which can be restricted by individual users to ensure they are seeing appropriate information at all times.
