The John Good Group, headquartered in Hull, is delighted to announce that Stewart Oades has been appointed Deputy Chairman as the next step in its long-term succession plan.

This appointment is a statement of the Group’s determination to achieve its long-term goal of developing its logistics, shipping and corporate travel activities.

Over the next 12 months, Stewart will work closely with both the Chairman, John Rutherford, and Managing Director, Alan Platt. The aim is to oversee the next exciting phase in the company’s long history before taking over as Group Chairman in May 2018. The company remains privately owned by the fifth and sixth generations of the Good family.

Dating back to 1833, the John Good Group is one of the oldest, independent logistics, shipping and corporate travel providers in the UK. With locations at sixteen sites across the UK including Hull, Felixstowe, London Gateway and Manchester, the business has gradually expanded its activities and has recently opened offices in Liverpool, Bradford, Plymouth, Bristol and Cardiff. In addition, the Group has overseas offices in Turkey, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and China.

During his career, Stewart has held senior management positions in Christian Salveson plc and Exel plc as well as serving as President of the Freight Transport Association. He has advisory experience with Marks and Spencer plc and previous Non-Executive Director experience with Clipper Group plc.

Stewart is currently a senior independent Non-Executive Director for Wincanton plc and Reflex Van Hire and is also Chairman of Dalepak Ltd. He is heavily involved in charitable initiatives, in keeping with the Matthew Good Foundation, therefore not only does he feel comfortable with the values and culture within the John Good business, but he also shares the Board’s commitment to achieving consistent, rapid growth.

“Stewart’s unrivalled knowledge of the industries in which the John Good Group operates will make a significant contribution in helping us achieve our aspirations. His experience and judgement will be invaluable as we strive to become a truly national organisation with leading positions in all of the markets in which we operate,” commented John Rutherford, who will continue as Deputy Group Chairman beyond May 2018.
