Denholm Good Logistics (DGL) is delighted to announce that its 380,000 sq. ft. Port Warrington facility has been awarded Customs & Excise Wet Bond status.

This is an exciting development for DGL and marks a significant expansion of the warehousing and logistics services available from our strategically located North West facility.

The new status enables DGL to provide bonded warehousing for alcoholic beverages, supporting businesses across the alcohol supply chain with the storage and movement of duty-suspended products.

A major new capability for Port Warrington

The addition of Customs & Excise Wet Bond status means Port Warrington can now support the storage and management of a wide range of alcoholic products, including:

  • Beer
  • Wine
  • Spirits
  • Cider

As an approved bonded warehouse for alcoholic beverages, the facility enables eligible products to be stored within a bonded environment before excise duty becomes payable. This can provide businesses with greater flexibility when managing stock, cash flow and supply chain operations.

The accreditation further strengthens Port Warrington’s position as a comprehensive logistics and warehousing hub in the North West.

What is Customs & Excise Wet Bond?

A Customs & Excise Wet Bond, commonly known as an alcohol bonded warehouse, allows eligible alcoholic products to be stored without excise duty becoming immediately payable.

Duty is generally payable when products leave the bonded environment for release onto the domestic market. This allows businesses to manage the timing of duty payments alongside their wider stock and distribution requirements.

For companies importing, producing, distributing or selling alcoholic beverages, bonded warehousing can form an important part of an efficient supply chain.

Benefits of alcohol bonded warehousing

The introduction of wet bond warehousing at Port Warrington provides a number of potential benefits for businesses operating within the alcohol sector, including:

Improved cash flow

Excise duty is not immediately payable while eligible products remain within the bonded environment, helping businesses manage their working capital.

Storage of duty-suspended alcohol

Businesses can store eligible alcoholic products before duty becomes payable, supporting more flexible inventory management.

Greater inventory flexibility

Stock can be held within a bonded warehouse and released as required, helping businesses respond to changing demand and supply chain requirements.

Support for import and export operations

Bonded warehousing can support businesses involved in the international movement of alcoholic beverages, helping to manage products as they move through the supply chain.

A wider range of logistics services

The new status allows DGL to support customers with a broader range of warehousing and logistics requirements from one strategically located facility.
